Poem of the Week!

Some thoughts while waiting for the pizza

I don't like your face. It reminds me of the
squirrel that my father ran over with his Chevy
last winter about February. It was very cold.

I remember I was at home waiting, worried.
I was just home for a visit, I don't live
there of course. He went out to pick up
the pizza and was gone for four hours.

I was worried, he's getting old. I kept
seeing this picture of him walking through
the door carrying the steering wheel
in his hands, staring, all bruised.
Probably dragging one of the tires along
with him.

For security maybe, maybe to keep it from
being stolen, maybe because it reminded him
of the big chocolate doughnut he bought
me at the fair when I was just seven.

The big chocolate doughnut, I never finished it, it
made me throw up.
